Mise En Place

A French phrase that translates to “everything in its place” or “setting up”.  In the culinary world, this is a code of the kitchen and refers to the setting up or arranging of the ingredients that you will need for a particular recipe. That means having your protein, your spices, your other ingredients, chopped, measured and ready to go.

I can’t tell you enough that this has made my life in the kitchen so much better. It is the one thing that will keep you from missing an ingredient and/or not having the ingredient at your fingertips at the crucial moment when you may need it during the cooking process.
