I’ve tried several French toast recipes and after gathering a little from this one and a little from that one, I came up with my version. It has pleased all to whom I have served it. I hope you enjoy it as well.
INGREDIENTS:
For the French Toast:
- 1 Loaf of either hallah or brioche bread (preferably unsliced so you can have thicker slices.) You should be able to get 16 3/4″ slices from a one pound or bigger loaf.
- 4 Extra large eggs and three egg yolks from three extra large eggs
- 3 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 Cups half and half
- 1 Cup heavy cream
- 3 Tsp good vanilla extract
- 1/8 Tsp salt
- Butter for grilling the toast
For the Strawberry Topping:
- 4 Tbsp of granulated sugar
- 1 Lb. fresh strawberries, quartered and hulled
- 1 Tbsp orange or raspberry liqueur
DIRECTIONS:
For the Strawberry Topping:
- Mix all the ingredients well and let stand until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is syrupy. I like to do these the day before using. They will last a good week.
- By the way, it’s also a great ice cream topping.
For the French Toast:
- Whisk the eggs, egg yolks, sugar, half and half, cream, vanilla and salt in a bowl until well blended.
- Dip the bread slices in the egg mixture until well soaked and place on a buttered griddle or pan over medium heat.
- Grill until light brown on each side. If you are serving more than two people you can keep the toast in a 200 degree oven to keep warm.
- Sprinkle the toast with powdered sugar and top with the strawberries.
Good day! I just would like to give you a huge thumbs up for your great info youve got right here on this post. I will be coming back to your website for more soon.
